I just had an automatic update *but* I have automatic updates option disabled. Previous version was 14.0.1.

Did you click the "Check for Updates" button in the About Firefox window? You should not trust that button. It will ignore your settings.

I did, indeed. I just wanted to know what was the latest version number. The button says "check". It doesn't say "update". Bullocks. Thanks for the information.

The Check for updates mean just that, it will check for update and then install it. Yet so many read it as "Check to see if I have latest update version".

Go to places like www.mozilla.org to see what the current version is which is 16.0.2 as there were two quick chemspill security updates for 16.0.

"Check" means take a look. It does not mean do something about what you find. That button should have been renamed to indicate that its function has been changed. When the function of a button is changed, the label should also change to let people know that it does something different.

Completely agree.

Even if they worded it as "Look for updates" it would have done the same expected action anyways.

This is nothing new as it is old now.

If you have been around support quite a bit you would see that so many seem to misread it as if it does the action of "Check to see if I have latest update version".

The reason for that expectation is because the button was never renamed. It should have been renamed to "Get Updates Regardless".
