I saved a profile to my desktop then deleted it and it deleted other files which I can no longer find

I created a profile and saved it to the desktop. (I have read since then not to do this but it's too late). I then deleted the profile and all the files. When I did this it deleted everything I had saved on my desktop. I have searched the hard drive for the files and they are nowhere to be found. Is there anyway to recover them?

You will have to use an undelete utility like Recuva to get those files back.

You should never specify an existing folder for a new profile unless that folder is an existing profile. If you remove the files in the profile when you delete that profile via the Profile Manager then all files will be removed as you've found out.
