Need to save profile before re-installing Firefox

Unable to start Firefox. Can I save the Firefox profile on my desktop or should I save to external media ? Do I need to delete files before re-installing Firefox or can I just follow the same steps as a new install and 

then copy saved profile.

so you need not to save the profile.You just uninstall the older version. and download a frsh version of firefox from the link: 

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

to uninstall the older firefox follow the steps

START|CONTROL PANEL|PROGRAMS(unistall a program)|MOZILLA FIREFOX

Using an uninstaller other than Mozilla's could contaminate your profile. The Firefox full installer will take care of that for you.

Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Now run the full installer.
