Firefox does not go to home page. it shows http://stats.avg.com/Services/g.asmx/insert?ClientID={b2ee6099-f800-445b-b3da-10a2da483ec0}&MachineID=c0fa0b76545926e982d43516b636a0d2-6672ce8b2d7def6b42fe40da3977243d3764e31d&DistributionSource=AVG&Version=10.2.0.3&Language=en&Profile=fr&InstallDate=2012-04-12%2010%3A55%3A19&AdditionalInfoXML=&FeatureToGuard=KURL_GUARD&ValueBeforeGuard=http%3A//blekko.com/%3Fsource%3Dc3348dd4%26tbp%3Durl%26toolbarid%3Dblekkotb%26u%3D20120212A78843448CFB484DE8408CCC%26q%3D&Action=01-Auto-Guard-Silent
When I click on the house icon, it does go to my home page. I have reinstalled Firefox but no different.
AVG have said it is a Firefox problem

Looks like you have a broken AVG add-on in your Firefox "profile" -- unfortunately reinstalling Firefox doesn't fix that since it's part of your personal settings (also known as the profile), not the application itself. I'm surprised AVG says it's a Firefox problem, since AVG was the one adding the add-on to Firefox.
Anyway, try to disable the AVG addons you have installed. They're not needed for security reasons anyway. Instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Uninstalling%20add-ons?s=disabling+addon&r=7&e=es&as=s#w_how-to-disable-extensions0-personassf-and-plugins

Many thanks to djst.
As suggessted I have disabled the AVG addon "Security toolbar" and Firefox now seems to work perfectly. I don't know if this will affect anything on AVG? Time will tell
