When I open firefox I get an error message "update could not be installed check for duplcates"
Error message: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox and try again. I have uninstalled all versions of Firefox. Then went to the Internet through Explorer and downloaded from scratch. A few days later I started getting the message again.

From the system information aside it seems you are using Firefox, and that it is Firefox version 10.0.1 If you try
- Firefox Button -> Help -> about Firefox
it should confirm what version you are using. (There are other ways of checking this)
You are probably getting the message because the current Release is Firefox 10.0.2 and so you need to update again.
It is easy to install the new version, as you have already shown, but your problem seems to be with updating, and so you should look into that.
The first thing to address is that the error message seems to indicate Firefox is still running so ensure all processes firefox.exe or plugincontainer.exe have ceased (Use Windows Task Manger to kill the processes if necessary)
- for further info see also software update failed
Please post back with how you get on. Possibly something such as security settings or security software is blocking either downloads or the change to your system.
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
Thanks John99 and cor-el for responding. I checked my task manager and closed down everything. Still does it. I also went into computer and deleted ALL firefox then installed through Internet Explorer. Still doing it.
Did you try to install the full version of Firefox 10.0.2?
Try to rename a currently existing Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) before installing Firefox.
