I want to download Firefox. How do I know the site where the exe file is about to be downloaded from is safe? The file does not appear to come from Mozilla. The file is from <mozilla.mirror.ac.za> or <mozilla.openap.net> or <mozilla.cdn.leaseweb.com>
I have downloaded and used Firefox before, but did not worry about the program as I thought it was coming from Mozilla. I just had to wipe my PC because of a virus. Maybe I am being paranoid.
Chosen solution
Firefox uses servers around the globe to spread the server load; these other servers are called "mirrors" or mirror sites.
On the mirrors list https://www.mozilla.org/community/mirrors.html all three of the URLs that you mentioned are valid download sites:
- mozilla.mirror.ac.za is shown under Africa as TENET Mirror Network (za)
- mozilla.openap.net is shown under Europe as OpenAP
- mozilla.cdn.leaseweb.com is shown under North America as Leaseweb CDN
If you mouse-over the HTTP under each item on that mirrors page above, you should be able to see the URL in the lower left of your browser.

Download Firefox from the official website: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html Or from the FTP of Mozilla if you need an old version: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

If you want to be sure then you can use the SHA1 or MD5 checksum to verify the download.
