In Firefox 4 Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

The Safe Mode test suggests you have a problem with an individual extension or a conflict. Try disabling them one by one. If you have a lot, disable half at a time until you find the culprit.
Make sure your plug-ins like Flash are up-to-date.
Be suspicious of any third party toolbars.
