There is music coming from my Firefox browser and I can't find out why or how to turn it on and off.

Sometimes when I go into Firefox music is playing. I have checked all my tabs and it is not coming from that. I assume it is some kind of streaming music. But I cannot find where the controls are for it.

See if this works. Open the Firefox Downloads window and use the Clear List button to clear your list of previously downloaded files.

I tried that, but had to wait to see because it is so random. But the problem is still there. Sometimes the music is playing and sometimes it isn't. I can't turn it off because I can't figure out what starts is and how to control it. It's very frustrating because I can't listen to my own music or watch videos without conflicting music in the background.

I had this problem as well and as I was listening to the music trying to figure out how to turn it off I realized it sounded like Pandora. So this will be only be helpful if you have Easy Pandora. If you added the Easy Pandora add-on it could be set to automatically start up when your browser opens. Mine was. I have no idea where the pandora button is now but I went to Tools up top, options, clicked the Easy Pandora tab and switched it to off. Problem solved minus not knowing where the button is to turn it on and off when I want. I have Firefox 5 so if anyone knows I would love to find it.
