How to remove a trojan in Firefox but OK in safe mode?
For about three days whenever I perform a google search and attempt to open a site I'm redirected to a page called stepandomain.com If I'm quick enough I can right click and open the required site in a new tab. In safe mode this doesn't occur. In IE it doesn't occur. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I'm using HP PC with Windows XP SP3. Help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much.

As it does not occur in safe mode, check your extensions to see if one of them is causing this. For details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Re-directions can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
- Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
- SuperAntiSpyware - http://www.superantispyware.com
- Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
- Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx
- Spybot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

Tony E, thank you so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kindness. The problem is solved thanks to you. The worm came in via an add-on update I believe. All good now. Thanks again.

Can you tell me which one of the listed items in TonyE's reply worked for you?
Thanks, Nate
It is best to try them all to ensure that you catch as much malware as possible.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
Hi nrpage. I followed TonyE's advice and disabled my add-ons one by one until I found the faulty one (it was only one). I then uninstalled that add-on. I didn't bother to re-install it as it's not something I use now. Problem solved. Hope this hels. Will.
