the drop down arrow next to the url address box doesn't bring up any previously visited sites anymore, and history beyond one day is missing each dayI attempt to look for previous sites visited, have I accidently turned off a feature?

Make sure that the Location Bar is not set to "Nothing":
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest: History, Bookmarks, History and Bookmarks, Nothing
- Smart Location Bar
This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
