When I click on the new tab plus bar it doesn't open. Why is this?

If I try to open a new tab independently of clicking on a new link, it will not open. For example, if I right click and try to open the "new tab" on the drop down menu it will not work. Likewise, when I click on the empty tab bar next to the home tab, it does not open either. I tried to play with the tab options but I cannot seem to figure it out.

Try disabling the Ask Toolbar extension.
