I am from India. I have Windows XP SP2 Professional and using BSNL’s broadband 500 Combo Plan. http://www.motive.bsnl.co.in/ belonging to the broadband provider has been blocked in FF3.6 and the HOSTS file at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC. My home page is http://www.googles.in. Whenever I start FF by clicking at a bookmark list or by just clicking the icon of FF the said site www.motive.bsnl.co.in tries to start and which gets blocked. However, after blocking this site FF is not able to proceed with opening the home page or the designated bookmark that I had earlier clicked. For the fact this www.motive.bsnl.co.in will attempt to open a number of times in a session and would either slow down the computer or block even sites of AVG updates. What should I do? Please help as this is becoming very irritating. This www.motive.bsnl.co.in/ is an old obsolete site attempting to download software for some external modems that are not in existence anymore. Telling the service provider is of no use. FF is my default browser.

Chosen solution

It is not a Firefox problem. It is a BSNL Broadband problem. They are automatically redirecting all users to motive.bsnl.co.in whenever they restart their modem/router.
