I have read what is posted on adding a folder in Thunderbird.

The problem I am experiencing is that when I select the main account and add a folder it keeps placing the folder as a sub folder of the in box not a folder or sub-folder of itself.

I am perplexed.

Do you still see this problem? Who is your mail provider? You right+click on the account, choose New Folder? In Server Settings > Advanced > what value do you see in IMAP server directory?
