I own three laptops, keep up with all updates, regularly clear cache...etc. Lately, when ever I click on a link in an article, the tab opens to a blank page. Why did this occur all of a sudden? There needs to be a fix. I'm wondering if there was an update recently which caused this problem. Meanwhile, this is very inconvenient on my end.

Hi CJ,

This sounds frustrating! A blank tab often happens if an extension or cached setting interferes with how links are opened. Here are a few things you can try:

Test in Troubleshoot Mode → Click the Firefox menu ≡ → Help → Troubleshoot Mode. This disables add-ons temporarily. If links open normally there, one of your extensions might be the cause.

Clear site-specific cache → Sometimes clearing just the cache/cookies for the affected site helps.

Check default browser settings → If you recently updated, Firefox may need to be set again as your default browser.

Update Firefox → Double-check you’re on the latest version (Menu → Help → About Firefox).

If the issue only started after a recent update, it could be a bug. In that case, reporting it in Bugzilla

would help the developers investigate.

Let us know if Troubleshoot Mode makes a difference!

Hi CJ, if I could add one other question:

On the blank tab, what is in the address bar? Is it also blank, or is the address of the page sitting there? If the address is there, could you click in the address and press Enter to see whether it will load?

Thank you for your efforts. I would like to provide you with additional information. My assessment of the problem is somewhat incorrect. Here is my example of an incident: When the results for what I am searching an answer to (such as this) appear on the page, I click READ MORE (in blue), which would normally expand the area I am reading. Instead, a new tab opens and the page is blank. When I go back to the page where the article was, it is now expanded for further reading. This is not the normal way for being able the Read More link to work. If I were to check in Trouble Mode, how do I bring back all my extensions? Incidentally, I have not added any new extensions recently.
