How do I reduce the size of attached jpegs before sending an email?

For several years there were a couple of Thunderbird add-ons, "Auto Resize Image" and "Shrunked Image Resizer", whose purpose was to quickly and easily reduce the size of attached jpegs in an email message. They both worked well and made it really easy to ensure that one wasn't swamping friends' inboxes with huge photo files. But now, neither of them work with the latest version of Thunderbird (140), and as I have in the past, I wonder why Mozilla didn't build such a function into Thunderbird a long time ago. Can anyone explain why this hasn't ever been done, and might there be plans to do so in the future? Thanks!
