Bookmarks are now being placed in "Booksmarks" in the "Open Application Menu Tab"
Greetings Ya'll, Firefox Bookmarks are no longer being initially placed in "Other Bookmarks, they are now being placed in the "Bookmarks" that is under the "Open Application Menu" Tab.
I've found that the "New Bookmarks" can be "Dragged" as a copy to "Bookmarks", from the "Bookmarks" located in the menu, for they will stay there unless I delete them
I can not move the "Bookmarks" back to "Other Bookmarks"
Would I lose My Bookmarks, If I "Refresh" Firefox, as suggested in the "Troubleshooting Section? If there is a chance of this happening then that would Absolutely Be Catastrophic!!
Chosen solution
Greetings jscher2000,
You are correct, somehow the "location" was changed to the "Timber Harvest Folder",which I've changed back to "Other Bookmarks". I saved a "Bookmark" & it dropped down to the bottom of the list of the "Bookmarks" there.
I have a question,... What is the Name of the "Bookmarks" list, that shows up under the "Bookmarks Tool Bar", and "Other Bookmarks", and is shown below the 2 horizontal lines?
jscher2000,... Thank You Sir, You've corrected My Problem!

I've scrolled through approx. 10 pages of Older Posts, to see if anyone else is having the problem that I am.
Apparently since the Latest Update, approx. 8-10 days ago, maybe longer,.... Many Issues have occurred that are related to "Bookmarks", with some Users that can not find their "Bookmarks", and others that can not see any "New Bookmarks", which makes my "Irritating Problem" very small in comparison.
But a very DISTURBING Problem is that very, very, very few People have received any help!
Why is that happening?!?
When more than 10 Firefox users, over a a short time period, have obvious problems that seem to be related to the New Update,...... Why is there No Response from Firefox Tech?!?
Hi David, let me address three topics:
Recent Bookmarks List
You are seeing newly added bookmarks here:
menu button > Bookmarks > Recent bookmarks list
That is normal, and it's just a chronological list for quick access and to help you find things that might have gone into the wrong folder. To find the actual folder, you can right-click an item on that list and click "Show in Folder". That should open the Bookmarks Sidebar and show you exactly where the bookmark is saved in the folder hierarchy.
Does that part work?
Note: do not delete from Recent bookmarks unless you want to delete the bookmark from its actual location.
Changing a Bookmark's Folder
One method is to open the bookmarked page, then click the blue star in the address bar to open the Edit Bookmark dialog. Here you can change the folder using either the recent folders pop-up list or, to the right of that, click the button to open a list box where you can choose a less recently used folder.
Another method is to move the bookmark in the Library window. To access that, either:
- Ctrl+Shfit+O (as in Organizer)
- menu button > Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks
- (menu bar or Alt+B) Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks
Firefox will usually start off by displaying the contents of the Other Bookmarks folder. You can switch folders using the left column.
Refresh Option
You shouldn't need this, but your bookmarks should be preserved. More info: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.
Greetings jscher2000,
"Does that part work?"
I made a new "Bookmark", which did get placed in the "Recent bookmarks list". I right clicked it, which caused it to show up, in the Column, which showed 84 Bookmarks, & 11 folders, placed before showing all of the Folders, & Bookmarks that I've saved under the "Star" icon. To make matters worse, 10 of the Folders are "Subfolders" of the very first "Folder". The majority of the 84 "Bookmarks" are actually "Bookmarks" saved in the very first folder.
When I click the "Star Icon", & open that very first folder, which is labeled "7-21-2025 Selling the Timber", and scroll down, past all of the Folders, & Individual Bookmarks, that I placed there, .... I've found every "Bookmark" that I have saved since 7-21-2025, (which I thought were lost),with the vast majority of them having nothing to do with Our Timber Harvest, & instead they are dealing with the Economy, My Work Van, Donald Trump, Gaza, Epstein, etc., etc., etc.
These "Bookmarks", in what I had become accustomed to, for more than 1 year, should have been placed in the "Other Bookmarks Folder", and found at the bottom of the listed folders/bookmarks. That action stopped 7-21-2025.
And, my attempting to "drag" bookmarks from the "Recent bookmarks list", & placing them in the "Other Bookmarks Folder", would not work, & i had to drag them to the Folder with the "Star" Icon, and by doing that,..... They were placed at the very bottom of the "Folder", & not in the "7-21-2025 Selling the Timber" Folder.

I opened a "Bookmark" from 8-1-2025 which is an article about Trump's Tariffs, clicked the Blue Star, & Sure enough,...The "Location" is the very first folder "7-21-2025 Selling the Timber", which is again, the very first folder in the "Show your Bookmarks".
And My Apologies, ... I'm baffled as to how that "Slide Bar" ended up in the last paragraph, of my first reply to you.

"move the bookmark"?....... Meaning Move almost 100 bookmarks, individually, to the desired "Folder"?
That Will Absolutely be very time consuming.
What can be done to stop this Catastrophe from Continuing?
If I'm repeating myself, please forgive me, but,... Prior to 7-21-2025, .... All of My New "Bookmarks", would end up at the very bottom, of the "Other Bookmarks Folder",
Firefox usually saves new bookmarks in the last folder where you saved a bookmark. When you save a bookmark, does Firefox display the little drop-down panel from the star in the address bar? If not, there are two ways to set Firefox to always shows that panel:
(1) On a page you bookmarked (blue star), click the blue star, then check the box for "Show editor when saving"
(2) Change a preference under the covers (steps at the end below the line)
Once you have Firefox set to let you choose the folder each time, you should only have to update that once and each further bookmark should use the same folder. Does that work for you?
Show in Folder
The Bookmarks sidebar should list your bookmarks under the 3 main categories:
- Bookmarks Toolbar
- Bookmarks Menu
- Other Bookmarks

I can't tell from your description which of the 3 main buckets the new bookmark was saved in. Do you mean they are under Bookmarks Toolbar, or inside a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

I was thinking of the star that is inside the address bar. There is another star which appears to be sitting on a tray, which opens the Bookmarks Menu. If your bookmarks appear directly on the Bookmarks Menu (instead of under Bookmarks Toolbar or Other Bookmarks), that answers the question of where they currently are. Next is how to move them if you prefer them somewhere else.

You can multi-select. Here's how:
In the left column, click Bookmarks Menu to show what is in that category.
Find the range of bookmarks you want to move, and single-left-click the first one.
Scroll down and Shift+left-click the last one. Now the range should be highlighted.
Right-click > Cut the selected bookmarks.
In the left column, click Other Bookmarks.
In a blank area on the right side, right-click > Paste.
That should move the selected bookmarks to the end of Other Bookmarks.
Success?
I forgot to list the steps for the backdoor method to turn on "Show editor when saving":
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.
(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste bookmarks.editdialog and pause while the list is filtered. Firefox should show at least 3 preferences.
(3) If the browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks preference has a value of false, double-click it (or click the Toggle button at the right end of the row) to change its value to true
(4) If you want Firefox to show more than 7 recently used folders on the pop-up list in the Bookmark Edit, double-click the browser.bookmarks.editDialog.maxRecentFolders preference to display an editing field, and change the value to, for example, 10 then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change. It might take a while for the list to build up to the new maximum value.
Greetings jscher2000,
"I can't tell from your description which of the 3 main buckets the new bookmark was saved in. Do you mean they are under Bookmarks Toolbar, or inside a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar?"
No Sir,.... The Button with the Star that has a line under it. When I click the very first folder in that list which is " "7-21-2025 Selling the Timber",..... that is where all of My "New Bookmarks" have gone in to.
The "Bookmarks Toolbar", did not, nor has, for more than a year, received any "New Bookmarks", unless I have manually moved them there.
I just "Bookmarked" an article from Zerohedge. I Clicked the "Blue Star", & sure enough, it shows that Article, in the Folder that has Data related to harvesting Our Timber. I Clicked the 3 horizontal line button, then "Bookmarks", & that article shows there.
In the "Library" by clicking "All Bookmarks", that has the star, below the "Toolbar", & "Menu", buttons, the very first folder is the referenced "Timber Folder". when I click it, the Contents of the folder are displayed in the right Column,... When I scroll to the bottom of the contents, I now see the Newest Bookmark.
I just found out that I can "Drag" Bookmarks from the "Timber Folder", & place them where I want them.
And Thank You Rick, for attempting to get this problem solved.
My Apologies jscher2000
I was multi-tasking when I replied to your last post, & called You "Rick", who is one of my customers.
I added a new folder above the "Timber Harvest" Folder, thinking that all new Bookmarks might fall in to it, and nothing happened. All New Bookmarks continue to fall in to the "Timber Harvest" folder.
Hi David, Firefox normally re-uses the last folder you saved in. If you change the folder while saving the next bookmark, that should be effective going forward.
Greetings jscher2000,
"Firefox normally re-uses the last folder you saved in"
That's not been the "Normal" for more than 2 years sir.
All saved "Bookmarks" would drop down in to "Other Bookmarks", & not any "Folder".
From there, I'd move them to what Folder I wanted them in, be it a Folder in "Other Bookmarks", or primarily in the list under the "Show your bookmarks".
At the beginning of this month, when I noticed that I wasn't seeing any Bookmarks that I had selected,.... I had not opened up the "Timber Harvest Folder" for several months. I opened that folder after seeing from the Library, that a new Bookmark had been placed in the "Timber Harvest Folder"
The Application, is absolutely not working in concern to Bookmarks, as it was prior to the beginning of August jscher2000.
There is a difference between saving/editing through the Add bookmark/Edit bookmark dialog, and moving a bookmark in the Library/sidebar/etc.
If you create a bookmark by clicking the star in the address bar or pressing Ctrl+D, a panel should open where you can choose a specific folder while saving (screenshot attached).
Firefox takes note of that selection for future reference (storing it in a preference named browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation, in some weird encoded way).
I assume when you check that part of the editor dialog on your Firefox, it shows the Timber Harvest folder. If you change it to a different folder while saving, or if you click the blue star after saving and change the folder through that Edit Bookmark panel, Firefox should capture the selected folder to browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation and use that folder going forward for the next bookmark.
P.S. I agree that Other Bookmarks is some kind of root container rather than a folder, but for purposes of the above, both are controlled by that Location setting in the Add bookmark/Edit bookmark dialog.

I believe you mean the Bookmarks Menu. If you view the Bookmarks Menu list in the Library window or sidebar, it should not have the references to Bookmarks Toolbar and Other Bookmarks, so you could confirm there (the actual bookmarks/folders should match).
