Folders displaying wrong sizes

The problem is that the 'Show Folder Size' option gives contents (even when no emails are present) that are too large. The file sizes seem to accumulate each time an email passes through the folder.

This was raised 8 months ago in a thread and the solution was to manually delete files in the Profile folder. This still works (I've just done it this afternoon) although personalised folders have to be deleted and re-made.

Has an easier solution been discovered, yet? Thanks...

Do you regularly "compact" your folders? R-click on account name > Compact... or File > Compact Folders https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/compacting-folders

Thanks for your answer but compacting isn't the problem (I've only been using TB 2 days). Even empty folders show that they contain data - which, obviously, they don't.

The previous question/answer is at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1443428 - it's exactly what I'm getting and the solution *does* work. But it's masking a problem with TB not removing data from the files without an extension (not the .msf file) in the Profile folders once they are no longer there. And it's also long-winded and only works for the email account folders.

The personal/offline folders have to be deleted via the Profile folders and then remade.

I manually compacted a folder by right-clicking and it worked - so there's no doubt that regular compacting will perform the same function. I shall set the threshold lower than the default. Thanks.
