If I am on a web site and click a link to another page on the same website Firefox opens a new tab rather than displaying it in the existing tab. How do I get Firefox to NOT do this?

Enter about:config in the address bar, accept the risk and search for browser.link. Change the value of this preference to 1 : browser.link.open_newwindow That will result in all links (except JavaScript links) opening (with a left click) in the current tab. Is that what you want?

If you also want JS links to open in the current tab, you need to change the value of the following preference to 1 : browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction
