my thunderbird email just stopped working my it dept says it is because outlook changed something and I need to delete my thunderbird and re install. is there a way to just fix this without doing that?

Reinstalling should always be a last resort. If you post more information on your outlook account, such as screenshots of incoming server and smtp server, and any error messages you've received.
