I was using an Outlook account on my T.Bird for quite some time. Suddenly to send email i had to re-enter the password every time I logged on. i got so sick of doing so, i removed the account (fatal mistake) and now cannot add it. the settings are correct -as confirmed by Microsoft tech help. The password is also correct. To make sure, I changed my Microsoft password, i can log in to webmail but still no go with T/Bird. An error message advises the either the user name or password are incorrect, which by virtue of them being accepted in web mail is not true. the Microsoft techie spent 30 minutes working on this with me. We tried both IMAP (my preferred protocol) and POP but got nowhere. Finally it was suggested I contact Thunderbird help. So....... HELP!!!! Please !!!

Chosen solution

You need to use an app password with Thunderbird, not your MS account's primary password that you use for webmail access. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/using-app-passwords-with-apps-that-don-t-support-two-step-verification-5896ed9b-4263-e681-128a-a6f2979a7944
