Hi. Yesterday, I browsed thru my Firefox and/or GMail settings, and removed headers and footers from my printed copies of emails and web pages. Which is fine. However, at the same time I must have mistakenly changed a setting so that my print-ready version of an email or web page always displays in B & W, not in color. Although it will print in color, depending on how I have my HP printer set. How can I change that back so the print-ready Print Preview copy displays pics, etc. in color? I forgot what I did. Aarrgh! Please help! Thanks. John Darin

Chosen solution

Sure:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste in_color and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox should show a row for each printer.

For true/false preferences, you can toggle their value either by double-clicking or by using the button toward the right end of the row with the two arrows.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox.

Hi John, I haven't figured out why preview sometimes is locked to black-and-white but the output (to a PDF printer in my case) is in color anyway.

I assume you are familiar with about:config for editing printer settings. When I double-clicked the

print.printer_name.print_in_color

preference to switch it to true, Firefox switched it back to false when displaying the next preview. I think it might be a glitch in how Firefox retrieves information from Windows about the capabilities of the printer.

Wish I knew what was going on there.

Thank you so much for your reply! Please refresh my memory on the use of about:config. Where do I access/input that command? Sounds very familiar. But, I don't remember how I got there.  :(

We have some issues with printer drivers. It would be great if you could provide some extra information so that we can fix things so other users don't encounter this issue. First, can you tell us what the model number of your HP is?
