I have a new Windows 10.0 Pro computer and installed lates version of fire fox. Now I try to implement automatic "open link in new tab" as I had in my previous PC. My internet search was unsatisfactory. The only solution I founf was to right click the link and use the option "open link in new tab". This works but is cumbersome compared to the old version. I also found some help to change certain values in "about:config" from false to true. But they did not work. Does the new version of firefox block the desired adjustment?

You can only force opening a link in a new tab if the website specifies a target window. You can divert this new window to a new tab using the setting in "Options/Preferences -> Tabs". For windows opened via JavaScript you can look at a pref. For links that do not specify a target window and open in the current tab with a left-click you can only force a new tab via a middle-click or via the right-click context menu.

Normal Links:

  • browser.link.open_newwindow
    1:current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;

JavaScript Links:

  • browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction
    0:divert always; 1:divert never; 2:divert no features
