I have even copied to and from a usb stick (html) and also copied to ms 'edge' and back out again !!! Can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong.? Please bear in mind you may be talking to a dummy (me) !! no matter what i have tried i cannot locate any of my old bookmarks in my newly created user area. Chosen solution

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You will lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.

not so sure, wether I understand your problem :-( did you export Firefox bookmarks to a file, and now you want to import again? see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location. Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>

Hi Again. I have read, and tried, the info that you have kindly provided but i still cannot move my bookmarks from one user area to the other. Today i have tried to use the 'backup & restore' option but i get a message 'unable to process the backup file'. So far i have 'verified the integrity', cleared the cache, refreshed Firefox and attempted to import from another browser. I only want to duplicate my bookmarks in a new user area before i delete the old one but it is proving to be beyond my skill set. the Edge browser has successfully imported them so i could use that but i have no intention of using Edge. I have followed all of the instructions required to make this work...but PC's very obviously have a mind of their own when i use them !!!! I can follow instructions but i am in no way technically gifted, so if there is a 'dummies mode' them i'm your guy. All help gratefully received. Thanks in advance. John

Thank you cor-el. The removal of the profile files (favicons.sqlite & places.sqlite) caused a 'resetting' of the process and reloaded my saved bookmarks.

Thank you.
