firefox won't load any pages of etsy.com for approximately the last two days.

although the site's logo appears on the browser tab, the browser window itself is a blank white page, no error message, no spinning wheel, and the full webpage address showing in the address bar.

help.etsy.com loads fine, although in reality, that directs to a zendesk domain.

etsy.com loads fine on other browsers and isn't showing outages on down detector, etc.

i have cleared the cache, cookies, etc., closed and reopened the browser, made sure i'm using the latest version, ran a malware scan, made sure there are no permissions, rules, add ons, apps, or other things that are interfering with the site loading.

i have not changed any of my firefox settings in the last year, besides automatic updates. antivirus also up to date and i don't appear to have any malware.

any ideas?

(also providing this info to etsy.com, in case the issue is 100% on their end.)

thanks in advance for any insights.

forgot to add that turning off enhanced protection didn't make the issue go away

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

problem is still there

more info: the "E" esty logo does show up in the browser tab, but when i right-click to "view page source," view-source:https://www.etsy.com/ is also a blank white page

no change when booting in safe mode

deleted all history, all cookies, entire cache - no change

already using the default theme - no change switching to another and back again

turned off enhanced tracking protection - no change

turned enhanced tracking protection back on - no change

right click, "view page source" yields another blank white page

debugger says only, "this page has no sources" but the page renders fine in other browsers

globalsign certificate is current and appears in order

site inspector reveals an empty page:

"< h t m l >" " < h e a d >< / h e a d >" " < b o d y >< / b o d y >" "< / h t m l >"

but, again, the same page loads fine in other browsers. for some reason, firefox is not reading it

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

no problem, after neither post showed up for a while, i found the help page explaining it. mods must have gone to sleep ; )

web console just shows the frame for the tool, no content. inspector just shows the "html, head /head, body /body, /html" page tags debugger says "this page has no sources"

network and memory functions DO show some information, but that's way above my pay grade.

as for the network monitor link, i get this: "Page not found Sorry, the page /en-US/Tools/Network_Monitor" could not be found."

has anyone else been able to replicate this problem?

p.s. i'm frustrated so now is a good time to say thanks to all the mods and contributors <3

You can try the DNS Lookup tool on the about:networking page.

  • you can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar
    "about:" is a protocol to access special pages

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

You can also check for issues with the Windows hosts file.

hosts file and related have not changed in 2020 so i don't think that's the issue (or am i completely off base?)
