HP update messed with FF startup

more options

d/l an HP update (my computer & printer)& my blank screen has been replaced with pics from Bing (my preferred browser). it also screwed up a few other things but i mostly fixed them. went into about:config, found blank screen, set it to true but every time i go into a new tab, those stupid pics come back & not my blank screen. its been too long since i did anything in about:config & just can't remember how to fix this.

oh yeah, it took out the stuff at the top of my screen like cut, copy, paste & when i put printer back, it is faded out & will no longer work.

Help!

I wonder whether you got one of those big annual Windows updates.

For your new tab page, could you check the old fashioned way -- on the Options page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Home then on the right side take a look at the New Tabs setting. Can you set this to Blank page or is it locked to Bing? Does the page mention an extension controlling your new tab page? Or "Your organization"?

i thought it was just a regular update. why it had to mess with FF i don't know. it wasn't locked to Bing that i saw, just a lot of code. FF Home page was further down a short list but it was there. thank you so much!
