Cannot download/save documents and videos for the past week or two

I don't know if this is related to Firefox version 78.0.2 (64-bit) which automatically downloaded itself and installed after a Windows10 reboot about a week or two ago, but during that same time period I have no longer been able to download/save documents (e.g., PDFs) and videos (MP4s) from websites. All I get is a blue bar (with an exit button) that says "Opening <filename>.<ext>". See attached image. Since nothing happens, I have to click the exit button. Much of my effort at the computer has come to a standstill because I can no longer download items from websites. There is no option in the "Help" dropdown to reload and reinstall the current version, so I'm stuck.

By the way, are PNG images required or merely preferred for attachments?

I followed your directions to click "Start In Safe Mode", but all that did was to completely FREEZE Firefox. I couldn't do anything, so I decided to reboot my PC. I didn't know what to expect because I had already previously rebooted a couple of days before, but that reboot did NOT solve the problems. However, this time the reboot apparently cleared up all of the problems. (I checked out everything that I had mentioned--so far, so good!) I hope it stays that way!

So, the problems are solved, though not directly due to your reply. But thank you VERY much for your help!

I still wonder what caused the problems in the first place. (I hope they don't return!)

Since Firefox Support requires separate posts for separate issues, I will be saying very similar things in my other response to your help.

Is this with all websites/pages, some, a few?

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
