homepage issue

Firefox will not open with the home page. It opens with a blank page instead of the designated homepage, but when I click on the homepage icon in the tool bar, the homepage will open. I have carefully checked the applicable options, preferences, and configuration. I've uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and I have even tried deleting my Firefox profile, but nothing has worked. Firefox still opens with a blank page instead of the designated homepage. I have used Firefox for many years with no problems; this problem began immediately after updating to the latest version of Firefox. Any help would be appreciated.

If it is Firefox you want as your home page and it sounds like it is, then it will not open with its own URL in the Home Page box. Strange I know, but that is how it works!

You have to instead select "Restore to Default" under the Homepage box and let Mozilla automatically fill in the Home Page line.

hello,

So currently, no home page will load at Firefox startup, whether it is the built-in about:home page or your custom URL?

Your browser.startup.homepage preference looks fine.

The browser.startup.page preference is purely numeric (integer), so just leave that on the default value of 1 for now.

I think we have seen a couple threads on home pages not loading recently, but I can't remember the cause. Can you rule out your extensions? One way to do that is to test in Firefox's Safe Mode. Here's how:

In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

   "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
(menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

"Restore to Default" has been selected all along.

Hello sff1,

Just to make sure : Would you please go the 3-bar menu => Options => General Under 'Startup' make sure that 'Restore previous session' is unchecked.

It has been unchecked all along to no avail.

Firefox works just fine when started in safe mode. So I've tried deleting all extensions and restarting it but it still fails to open with the homepage.

Hi sff1,

  • Click on menu icon.

  • In left pane, you will find Home menu, Click on it.
  • In this menu, you will find New Windows and Tabs options.
  • In this option, you will find a dropdown menu named HomePage and Windows.

Hope it works. Thank You.
