session restore - clicking the button doesn't work

more options

I've used the session restore for a long time. A while ago, session restore didn't work at all, so I found an explanation on the internet about how to copy an older sessionstore file and did that. I don't think it's ever worked since (sorry about the lack of accuracy, at the time I had other things to worry about in my life)... Anyways, nowadays it loads the list of the last websites as it should... but when I click the button "restore session" [I hope that's the correct name, some while ago I inadvertently switched to a German Firefox version], the button gets displayed in fainter colors, and nothing else happens. - how do I get the session restore function to work again? ... without losing the history (which seems to be saved, but is inaccessible) - anything I need to do to before I can re-use the old sessionstore copy?

Windows 7 (yes, when this is resolved, I want to switch... BTW, what's the best way to migrate Firefox bookmarks to Linux?) FIrefox 73.0.1 (now... but it's started some weeks ago, under a different version.)

Thanks for all help!!

So you get the crash recovery page indicating that Firefox couldn't restore your session automatically and asking whether you want to try again or start a new session?

If it doesn't work on the second try either, something may be wrong with that session history file, or with your Firefox. Next time, before trying the restore button, could you pop up the Browser Console using Ctrl+Shift+j and see whether the restore button causes any new error messages to appear there?

If needed, you can convert the old session history file to a clickable list of URLs using my Scrounger tool:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html

After loading the .jsonlz4 file into the page, click Scrounge URLs.

It tends to fail with truly enormous files, but for moderately sized files, you should get a list of the contents.
