The normal route of clicking on write email >format>text colour used to go to a drop down menu where you simply clicked on the colour on a large ball. Now it has a silly drop down which stays on black whatever you do. Why do developers mess up things that have functioned the same way for years successfully?

I agree. That's what I have claimed all along, but very experienced contributors have tried to claim otherwise.

I cannot update from 68.6.0 because of wrongly written code in Thunderbird, which of course will not alter the colour glitch.

It seems that Thunderbird are no longer interested in running the platform properly, which is a pity.

You click on icon to select colour. then select 'choose a colour' button to open the colour picker. Select colour. Then close the colour picker, finally click on OK.

What happens if you close the Mac color picker before clicking OK?

Yes, that works thanks. Before I was choosing a colour and then writing the colour in the lower box. It's like a lot of things on email systems where nobody ever tells anybody what's going on when they ruin a previously simple system on Thunderbird.

On a Mac in Mail you choose colour on the ball and that's it, done and finished. And, you close the colour ball when you want, which of course is far better than turning it off to get the colour you want as, you may be changing bits and pieces and not want to jump through hoops all day long.

For me, If I do NOT Close the Systems Color Picker window - the error everyone is yelping about IS still present. If, and ONLY If, I close the Mac Color Picker window FIRST, does clicking OK have the desired effect. So, my "workaround" for this color picker isn't working thing, for the last few months, has been to get in the habit of ALWAYS closing the color picker window after making my color choice, and before clicking OK. This simple change of habits has restored my TB to full functionality ... but it did seem, at some point, in earlier releases, that it wasn't necessary to close the color picker first in order to change to colors. Right AFTER THAT Version is when all of the griping began.

Yes, unfortunately, it's another bit of poor design from Thunderbird, just like the fact that you cannot update 68.6.0 onwards because of a code problem on the update relating to certain Mac's.

I'm on High Sierra and have had no problems updating TB. I'm on 68.10.0 (64-bit) now and, apart from the color picker going unresponsive a few versions back, everything on this version (including Plugins) is working fine for me. I wish they would revert their color picker code, but I have almost become used to the inconvenience of the extra step of HAVING to close the color chooser in order for it to just work right. (I'm betting there's still a 32 bit process, in there, somewhere: that Catalina just HATES ... if for some reason you cannot update ... because on this old 32 bit compatible system I'm having NO Problems. I really believe Apple threw the baby out with the bathwater by banning all 32 bit or UNSIGNED Code in their push for the ultimate security. SO MUCH stuff does not work AFTER you install 10.15 ... so I won't 'upgrade'.)

Yes I'm on Catalina and Thunderbird after 68.6.0, which works perfectly, but I cannot upgrade from there as the code is wrong apparently. I used 13.0.1 for donkey's years as, I like the colour icons and it was perfect, but once my new iMac was on Catalina 13.0.1 it would not function on certain functions on Thunderbird. This as you say is due to Catalina being a 64 bit software program. I just want Thunderbird to get Thunderbird 68.6.0 onwards to work with Catalina.
