Hi

It's possible to show the path the email took through computers between you and the sender. From looking up parts of that information you can sometimes determine the location of those intermediate computers. It's not perfect, not all email providers allow you to see that in full, and it can be faked.

Here is a reasonably clear explanation of the parts of an email header, and how they can help determine the origin. https://mediatemple.net/community/products/dv/204643950/understanding-an-email-header

To see the full headers of a message in Thunderbird: Select the message you want to check on in the received emails list (you don't need to open it - just click on it). In the top menu click View, and then Message Source. On a Windows machine you can do this quicker with [ctrl]U.

In the window that opens you can see the full detail - review the article I referenced above for how to identify where the servers on the email's path to you are in the world.

You could also search online for email trace analyzer tools or services that can interpret the email header info for you. Agnes.
