AT&T log-in Page Won't Load

Posted

I've been trying all day to get to the log-in page on AT&T's website. I discovered one other person had the same issue...so far, no one on the AT&T discussion board has replied with any kind of solution or to advise of a known problem. I've posted on the thread as one who has the same problem.

After not being able to find any answers, I reluctantly went to MS Edge. The log-in page loaded. But I do not trust MS Edge (I believe it's just Internet Explorer with a new look and name) and will not log in to sites like my bank or for my credit cards and stuff like that. When I found that the log-in page would load in Edge, I came to the FF forum to see if anyone else had the same problem.

I tried to access the log-in page both from one of my bookmarks and from the log-in link on AT&T's homepage - with no luck. When clikking to log-in, the page just sits there with a little blue [status?] circle, spinning, and "Please give us a moment. We're almost there!"

Firefox: 68.0.1 (64-bit) - updated 19 Jul. I've made no recent changes to preferences, and have added no new Windows 10 Home, vs 1809 (OS Build 17763.615) - last updates 10 Jul Java - vs 8 update 221 - updated 19 Jul Adobe Flash - updated 25 Jul (problem with AT&T log-in page existed before this update)

Since I can get to the AT&T log-in page on Edge, could this indicate an issue (yet unknown??) in Firefox?

Chosen solution

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Content Blocking is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console about what content is blocked

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Question owner

I started at the beginning of your reply with the intent to attempt each suggestion one-by-one - but didn't have to go past the first paragraph. Apparently, either AT&T has made changes to their website since I was last logged in around 30 June, or the 09 July update to uBlock has caused an issue. The log-in page loaded as soon as I turned uBlock off. I never thought about these extentions because I've had them for quite some time.

Thanks... do you mind if I share this info with the OP over on the AT&T forum since no one has offered anything? Perhaps that individual is also using FF and an ad blocker, or one of the other extensions you mentioned...
