Firefox repeatedly crashes

My Firefox is repeatedly crashing on my one machine. When it does, it simply closes - no crash report popup or anything.

Upon reopening, there's no mention of the crash except a 'restore session' dialogue.

I've tried disabling hardware acceleration, as well as running in firefox safe mode. I've also done a firefox refresh - as well as several cycles of uninstall, reboot, clear out anything that looks like firefox related (including registry and profiles) and finally reinstall.

it'd be a lot easier if there was a crash report, but there isn't :(

I'm at wits end, and practically unable to use firefox on the machine at the moment - and that's a tragedy.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version?cache=no Did you update Firefox to the latest version 66.0.2 March 27, 2019

Thanks for the reply! I was running the latest version of 67 beta (although I've had this on the release version in the past), but just to test, I removed that (and did a deep clean - registry/folders/user profiles) and installed 66.0.2. I even didn't sync to my account - i.e. I kept this clean & pristine. Its still closing itself after a few minutes.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hi Fred Thanks for trying to help debug this. I've removed ffx from the firewall list (windows defender) Safe mode does exactly the same (ffx window opens, then just disappears after a number of minutes) (FYI, the windows machine is running up-to-date patches.)

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?
