how to permanently delete the yellow pop-up attachment bar
The word "attach" is a very common verb, and every time I type it in an email, the yellow attachment bar pops up. This is very distracting and a waste of time to have to constantly delete. Is there a way to prevent it from appearing permanently? Thank you!

There is a way to alter what triggers that yellow attachment bar. So if you always use the word 'attachment' when actually attaching something, but do not want 'attach' to do the same thing then try this:
- 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > ' Advanced' > 'General' tab
- click on 'Config editor' button.
- In top search type: reminder
- look for this line: mail.compose.attachment_reminder_keywords
- right click on that line and select 'modify'
- a new small window opens called 'Edit string value'
- carefully edit to remove the word 'attach' and the following comma.
eg: if it says:
- .doc,.pdf,.xls,.ppt,.rtf,.pps,attachment,attach,attached,attaching,enclosed,CV,cover letter
then edit to say:
- .doc,.pdf,.xls,.ppt,.rtf,.pps,attachment,attached,attaching,enclosed,CV,cover letter
- click on 'OK
- close 'about:config' window - top right 'x'
- click on 'OK'
This would take effect in the next 'Write' window you open.
I should have written that I have a Mac, which in my version of General does not give me Composition. Why can't Thunderbird simply write code that removes that yellow attachment bar? If I want to attach something I click on Attach when writing an email -- the yellow bar serves no purpose other than irritation.
re :e a Mac, which in my version of General does not give me Composition.
Check you are looking in the correct place. You do not find 'Composition' under 'General' - it is the other way round. Preferences > Composition > 'General' tab 'Check for missing attachments'
As 'Check for missing attachments', is a checkbox that can be selected, you can uncheck it which I believe will switch it off or you can click on 'keywords' and edit what you want it to prompt for. click on all OK's.
You didn't mean Preferences in the Mac, but in Thunderbird! I now will try to follow your instructions. I will let you know if I succeed and appreciate your patience, Mr. Toad.
