Recently two emails have had the above words in capitals, added to the subject line. Duplicate emails came through but only one had the addition. As I knew the sender I checked and there had been some jpgs attached. When I opened the emails all attachments had been stripped.

Thank you for that, I'll have to do that although the two seem to be isolated events. If I find out I'll post an answer.

I'm calling this solved to prevent people wasting any more time. hal

Thunderbird does not modify subject lines. Check your antivirus software

I Googled the message and got this. Maybe this will help you. http://forum.spamcop.net/topic/3721-warning-av-unscannable/

Thank you both for your responses they were really appreciated. Firstly I am running a Linux OS and my AV is Clam TK which virtually only does what I ask, and so I cannot see how it "gets" into my emails. However I'd appreciate any comments on this, although I have the "Allow AV clients to quarantine..." ticked. Secondly I had read the web site, but thank you for the suggestion, however my headers do not show the same as shown in on the web site.

Since this is not Thunderbird causing your issue I would do the search on the error and see if any of the other results fit you problem.
