Turn off quick find

In very large pages like my facebook home page if I accidentally press a key the quick find opens and tries to search for it. Not only is this not what I want it loses my location and can irritate immensely. I want to switch this off but cannot find an easy way of doing it. If I am making a post and accidentally click outside the area then continue typing it loses the place I was at, often meaning searching through dozens of threads for my post. I understand this is a useful feature but for many, me included it is more pain than gain.

Hi Seriousthree!

Here are some instructions on how to disable the Quick Find Bar. Hope this helps!

To permanently disable the Quick Find bar :

3-bar menu => Options => General => under 'Browsing':

uncheck : 'Search for text when you start typing'

The setting in Options => Preferences is for starting a search when you type some text only - it won't disable / (forward slash) or ‘ (single quote).

The best way to close (not disable) the (Quick) Find bar is to press Esc.
