Please tell me if I can use a Yubikey 2 factor authetication to acess my gmail through thunderbird?

I tried this several times and it all seemed too hard .. There were error messages etc .. It does not seem possible at present so I am forced to use Gmail only.

I asked a similar question in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1230107 though my main interest is getting it to work with my Fastmail account. I also submitted a support ticket with Fastmail to find out if they have tested TB60 with Yubikey/U2F.

What were your error messages? The more details the better.
