How do I restore my previous version of firefox?

For some reason, my FireFox was upgraded FOR me AGAINST MY WISHES. I am LIVID and want the old version back. This activity took place about 5 minutes ago after updating Flash. I IMMEDIATELY CLOSED FireFox and hope I won't have to open it again until I've restored version 56 build 153, I think. Where are your instructions on how to do this.

I am NOT interested in going through any explanations as to why I don't want to upgrade, so please spare your fingers.

For me, this is a complete deal breaker. If you can't help me undo this mess, I will never use ANY MOZILLA PRODUCT AGAIN. AGAIN, I SAY THAT I DID NOT WANT TO UPGRADE AND I ALWAYS X'ed OUT OF ALL YOUR WARNINGS ABOUT BEING MORBIDLY OUT OF DATE. I JUST WANT THIS NIGHTMARE TO GO AWAY. Now HOW DO I DO THIS.

Did you find the article: Install an older version of Firefox?

Someday you can tell us why you don't like Firefox 57+ since there may be good workarounds for those issues.

It is not about being outdated per say but more do with potentially being (more and more) vulnerable to things that have since been fixed in later versions. https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox/

Thank you folks, for all your offerings.

I realized after I went to bed, that I did not include all the information that I should have AND that I did NOT explain myself as well as I could have regarding my desired outcome. I am sorry for my negligence and for letting my emotions get the better of me; I was both shocked and angry (though neither is much of an excuse.)

OK, first off, I am on a Mac, running macOS 10.13..3, High Sierra. I also use Time Machine, which, for those non-Mac folks, means that I have recent backups of just about everything. Hopefully, this will make what I want to do easier.

Yes, the end result would be FF 56.x as it was before I was so unceremoniously upgraded without my permission. (james: this is the top reason why I want to undo this install. I might feel differently if I had requested the update, but I did not, and this should never have happened!)

BUT... I really don't want to go through an uninstall-install process. (Pkshadow, to be completely honest, I haven't yet looked at all the links you included, partially because I wanted to respond to the three of you, before I cause anyone to go on a wild goose chase, and because of the medical needs of my cat.)

Since I should have backups out the wazoo, there should be a way (easier or not) to "undo" this update. And, hopefully, this should put me back just the way I was before I was so rudely awoken by "you are now using the latest version of FireFox. (jscher2000 and james: this is why I haven't re-read the the "dangers of installing out of date software". In my past life, I was a developer, and so I've been there and I've done ALL that. And that was why I said that I didn't want to get into philosophical discussions on the relative merits of what I'm wanting to do.)

I'm hoping that I can get further advice that does not include installation. Very interested in what you have to offer.

Thank you, again.

You should not be using old versions. https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox/ is the very simple reason why.

Please update to Firefox 61. Is there a reason you want to continue using an older version?

Please read my latest post as well as re-reading my initial post.

I don't do, nor did I request ANY Lectures! Thank you very much. There will be no further conversation to this responder. You just made me really mad again. Please refrain from any further replies.

Thank you for such a quick reply.

I do want to make sure that I've got this right... "do the backups" means that I should follow the instructions in the three links you sent me.

Just so that we are both on the same page, won't I be backing up the "latest version" that was dumped on my last night?

I will make sure I do just that.

Right now I"m catching up on my "assigned readings" <grin>.

Hi junkitt, this is an official support forum and you knew you were going to receive this advice. And you know it's right, even if you don't want to hear it. I think that's why you're angry.

Anyway, if you want comments from people who don't care about your security -- which affects all of us when a computer is joined to a bot army to spew spam and denial of service traffic onto the web -- you can ask in a different community.

jscher2000,

Thank you for reminding me about the professional nature of this forum. Although it may have seemed like i might have forgotten, I have not, I assure you.

And you are also right that I *knew* that I was going to get this answer, as I have already received at least one prior to Mr. Downer's response. However, I also requested in my initial post that I preferred to spend my energy fixing this mistake. I think I also said something similar to that in my clarification post, the one that also included my appology. And I further explained that I have development background, which included providing technical support to people like junkitt who are really not as interested in hearing the warning, but just want their problem fixed.

So, I hope you can understand my perspective. Additionally, I am also a full time care giver and my attention is constantly being redirected. So, I hope you can appreciate my push to get things back to the way they were prior to the "mishap", especially while things are quiet on the care giving front.

One more thing, I appreciate your taking the time to tell me what I probably didn't want to hear.

Do the backups for your bookmarks and your Profile then uninstall and then reinstall . They need to be saved. Ok....

Please mark the answer that solved your issue as the solution. Thank You

Please watch the attitude. You are running out of date, and insecure software. No matter how technical you say you are, this is still a BAD practice.
