When I do a search in my Firefox Browser 61.0 on my Mac Yosemite 10.0.5 I used to be able to drag images from the search page onto my desktop and that has stopped working. This happened once before, not sure if it was an update issue or not. An ideas about what is wrong? Solutions? If I need to revert back to an older version do you know which one that was? Thanks...

Hi, you do not say who you use to search so will take it as Google. Yes there are changes for copyright protection. https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/15/17017864/google-removes-view-image-button-from-search-results I would think this maybe the issue but again you have not listed where or if tried someone else. Please report fully and also test before posting as basically you have made a statement with out providing details that are crucial to duplicate your issue.

I use DuckDuckGo for my search engine. But that has nothing to do with the problem. It is a Firefox issue which is why I posted to this forum. Also, it is not a copywrite protection issue. As I mentioned... this happened once before. Now, after I have given it more thought it was in fact a past issue with the Firefox browser upgrade which they fixed but now with the newest upgrade... the old issue has resurfaced. I have also tried reinstalling Firefox. I have stated the problem and do not understand what you are talking about when you say "report fully". What does "report fully" mean? I need to know what information you are looking for. What other information or details are you talking about? What do you need? I solved the issue myself before, by looking up forums and searches but now I do not see the answers which is why I am posting here. If you look up for yourself... "used to be able to drag images from the search page onto my desktop and that has stopped working in Firefox" you will see one possible cause to be the Tor package from years ago. That also is not the present problem.

Sites nowdays have implement site protection to prevent image thefts which is what your doing when you drag a image form their site to your computer that is Copyright Violations. If you use DuckDuckGo they probably implemented Copyright protection to prevent themselves from being sued for Copyright Violations. So unless you have permission to get a image from a site without permission what your doing is asking for problems.

You can check for sandbox security issues.

You can set this pref to 2 or 1 on the about:config page to reduce the sandbox security level.

  • security.sandbox.content.level = 1
  • close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.

If '1' still doesn't have effect then try '0' to disable the sandbox.

If this didn't work then undo/reverse the change and reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Thanks cor-el, we are getting closer as now I remember with one of the previous updates I changed the boolean to false until they fixed the bug. I tried your fix and it did not work. I closed out Firefox and then left the integer at level 1. It was at 3. As you can see in the png I enclosed... there is the security.sandbox.content.tempDirSuffix in bold. I am wondering if that has anything to do with anything. I will appreciate any other troubleshooting ideas you may have. The problem again... When a page search of images comes up in my browser (DuckDuckGo), I click on an image to choose it... then I could simply drag and drop it into a folder. Now an extra step is needed. I must click on the image then choose "view file" to be able to do that.

The security.sandbox.content.tempDirSuffix pref is used internally by Firefox for the sandbox to create temp folder with a random name. This pref stores the random part, so do not modify this pref.

If modifying the pref didn't help then you can reset security.sandbox.content.level via the right-click context menu to the default value.
