after many attempts I discovered that the crash happens (even when I have all the add on disabled) exactly as soon as the screen saver starts or as soon as I open the screen settings!!! As long as the screen saver doesn't start TB works well even with ALL add on activated!!! So I may affirm that the culprit is the screen saver or the settings of energy saving that will shut off the screen!!! But I cannot keep the lap top screen always ON! More precisely I verified that TB crashes as soon as I open windows 10 settings!!! I shall report this issue to Windows 10 reports as well Microsoft Windows [Versione 10.0.17134.48] Any solution?

Screen settings in Windows via Control Panel?

That's interesting, because something from Athena is definitely installed on your system. For some users, it is Athena ID Protect Monitor (a smartcard reader).
I checked carefully: as long as I do not let my lap top going in stand by then Thunderbird never crashes even if I have all the active add-ons.

You are right, I installed a smartcard reader but actually is not plugged in. Any how I am sure that all this trouble comes whenever I open Windows 10 settings or whenever the lap top goes on stand by or the screen saver starts. Obviously before the last Windows 10 update to [Versione 10.0.17134.48] Thunderbird was working flawlessly.

How about you remove the smart card reader software and see if the problem goes away?
I cannot since I need it and more over tb was working well even when the card reader was there!

As I wrote you, TB works really smooth until I do not open windows settings or leave the screen saver start. So must be some sort of incompatibility between TB and Windows 10 64 bit settings. I could forget this problem, but I need TB be active all the time (as it was before last windows update) since I manage automatic replies.

Eventually I must admit you are totally right! Indeed most probably the last windows 10 update installed a smart card reader driver I don't need and more over send TB in crash. I removed that microsoft useless driver and now (so far, finger crossing) TB stay open without crashing.
Many many thanks!

I solved uninstalling and removing a Microsoft Smart Card driver I don't remember never installed, probably was installed during last windows 10 update.

It is totally crazy. I've an "athena smart card" that I don't use but I've read some comments about the drivers of this card related to this TB issue, so I've connected the "smart card", the drivers were automatically re-installed and the problems with TB have been solved. omg,
