Sync works fine with two desktop PCs or a laptop and a PC or between 2 laptops. Mozilla is just "pushing" Firefox for mobile devices with every Firefox update to get more users to try Firefox for iOS or Firefox for Android.

Just setup Sync on both computers and it will work.
