Suddenly I can't play video or audio on Ffox v.59
I have had no problems until a couple of days ago, now I can't receive audio (Radioplayer / YouTube etc.) or any videos. In YT it loads up, and I can click on the progress bar and see one frame, but it doesn't move on. I sometimes get the message 'If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device' I have done that several times!
I have not made any changes to my setup.
I am using Firefox v.59 Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS.
Chosen Solution
I did nothing than what I explained this morning - run the SFC program. It still didn't work. (I rebooted as suggested).
Later on I switched the whole computer off, and when I came back to it a few hours later- it is working !!! Even the volume is louder than before (sometimes I had to strain to hear it).
I think it is a miracle - unless you can think of better !!!!!
I shall now mark the problem as solved.
BTW I am out this evening.
Thank you for all your help.

I had seen some of those 'fixes' before. However, I have just cleared the cache (something I hadn't tried), but to no avail. I still have the problem.
I just remembered I used CCleaner the other day, but I have used it hundreds of times before with no problems.

Hi, that maybe the issue if you have not done settings to avoid Firefox Program Folders. Could you check to see what it destroys please.
CCleaner only removes the Internet Cache, Download History and Compact Databases.
I downloaded Chrome earlier this evening, but having the same problems there.
hmmmm Same problem in Chrome as well. Give this a quick try to see if it is Windows 7 :
- Repair System Registry and Files
Find the Dos Prompt or Powershell then Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window : SFC /Scannow (SFC<space>/Scannow) then hit Enter. Reboot when completed.
Also please check in your Control Panel Applet : Sound and that the proper things are set and Video Card is setup properly for playback.
As well please run the Trouble Shooters :

Thank you for your help Pkshadow.
I tried the Trouble Shooters and it found that the Audio device wasn't set to default and it has fixed it. (oh no it hasn't !!!).
I see there is much more on the geek.com list which i will have to tackle tomorrow, as I must get to bed now!!!
I don't understand how to find Dos Prompt - is that the same as typing CMD on the Search Program and Files window? What do I right click, and how do I run as Administrator (there is nobody else but me using this PC). I will also need to find the video card is set up okay.
Overall it just seems strange that everything was working okay a few days ago, and now stopped.
Good night, and thanks again.
Hi, yes is CMD but need to right click it and run as administrator.
G'night
Good afternoon.
I ran the SFC program and it said it found some problems, but fixed them. (Still no audio or video!).
Looking at the 'howtogeek' page again, it seems on Win 7 it gives only limited options after clicking find and fix problems. It now says that it cannot find any problems with my audio.
I also double checked that the audio lead was in the back of the PC - it was, and the speakers crackled as I pushed it in and out.
Also this morning, my HP machine did a monthly test on the hardware in my machine (Hardware Diagnostic Tools) and reported that All essential hardware is functioning properly.
Are you able to offer any more help? Thanks.
