Where did my passwords go.

Hello,

I September I had to have my computer re-imaged, and at the time I backed up/saved my Firefox profile. I was able to reinstall it without problem. On the weekend my hard drive fried, and I have put in a new one. I retrieved my Firefox profile from September again and installed it. Everything is there, but my passwords. Some folders look different (Profile just says user, weheras my backed up one was Default User) - has there been an update to Firefox that might have caused this? I'm not sure how to get the passwords to appear again. Thank you.

Colin

Chosen solution

Note that Firefox 58+ uses logins.json and key4.db instead of key3.db used previously, but can fallback to key3.db when key4.db is not found. So make sure you use the correct files.

Were the backup files intact? You should be able to copy them to the new hard drive. How was the backup done? Just a straight copy?

The files were intact - I had used them previously to restore my profile (I do it periodically just in case). Followed the same procedure of copy and pasting the user profile into the new Firefox folder, and everything else worked fine, just no saved logins.

That was it! Deleted the key3 and key4 files and directly copied/pasted the old one and everything showed up. Thanks!
