Want to put "add bookmark" button next to the "show your bookmarks" button I finally got on my address bar? Don't want it "IN" the address box!

I have, use, work on and update a bunch of computers for friends and family. This is my trial run with the new version of Firefox. Would like to be able to yank people off Chrome. So I try to set Firefox up like it is on all of the computers and can't seem to figure out how to put a "add bookmark" button next to the "show your bookmarks button I now have in the growing list of icons I normally have on my browsers. I have address box, new tab, home button, add bookmark, show bookmarks, icon, icon icon on all the computers. Can't find one to put there. Already removed the one that was embedded in the actual address box. Hopefully I am missing something and not being forced to have it any way I want it as long as Microsoft, I mean Mozilla blesses it.

Thank you for your consideration

With you being such an "old hand" with PC's and the internet, please consider using the keyboard command of { Ctrl + D } for adding a new bookmark.

That similarity with how IE worked was my "crutch" back in 2002 when I first started using Firefox (which was called Phoenix back then). Along with many other keyboard commands that are standardized in most Windows applications. I was doing an early version of BBS back in 1986 or '87 to learn and share tips with other users for vertical market software I was using in my business where the "paid support" was very limited and once it ran out it was very costly to use.

Currently, a user can hide the "Bookmark this page" star in the Location Bar via userChrome.css code, but it can't be moved to another location in the UI in Quantum. The Mozilla developers very purposely limited what WebExtensions can modify in the UI vs. the "free-for-all" that was permissible with the old Legacy extensions. That may change some in the future, but I wouldn't "hold my breath" while waiting for any particular change to be made possible for quite awhile.

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar. In the new window, look for the icon. When you find it, hold down the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be. You can move any of the icons you want from here, but; some icons are locked in place.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

Note: about:customizing is no longer present in Firefox 47+ releases.

  • Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar.
Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
  • Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and
    select Customize.

I can't say I chased every one of those links but by the time I finished ten plus hours would be used up. Took me about 20 minutes to get the new browser version to look somewhat like I wanted with one exception, the inability to manipulate the location of the "add bookmark" icon. I would like it to be in the same place it has been on all the computers I use and have used for the last several years. Should not be impossible to do although maybe it is for now.

Before I asked my original question I had already tried fixing it for a couple hours. Not in any way new to computers or browsers, still even have an old netscape.net email account. Wrote my first emails in the late 80's on DDN. Last time I tried getting any kind of computer help was probably over five years ago. Just really want to like/use/implement the new browser. This technically is not my first attempt with 57. Had too many issues when it first launched and still have a couple others but this one should be easy.

Thanks to all that have read this!
