Password manager autocomplete worked fine. Yah!

New software vendor recommends not to store passwords in browser. It saves in own format, and writes a CSV backup ... whilst removing all entries in browser password manager

Avast Software proves to be rubbish, slowing browser down. But neither Firefox or Avast have a way to directly restore passwords, and even the password exporter / importer add-on is not compatable with current version !!

So is there any way back, or am I stuck with a delay as I type, or the yellow "software is slowing browser" prompt?

No idea what this means " or the yellow "software is slowing browser" prompt? "

No. looks like got self into a mess. 400+ sites,,,,,,

CSV should be able to copy paste them out of it. Can open in Excel if have Office. Or in Google Docs If group them into type of places can leave them in that. Copy/Paste into sites.

People use Last Pass, passwords are saved on their server, did get hacked a yr ago or something, https://www.google.ca/search?q=Last+Pass+hacked&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=UfswWqLTKKeB-gTpnoTABg

If you have corrupted Profile and passwords are in your Profile then yes is possible to get them out but no guarantees.

Please update your Video Card Drivers : AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series driverDate: 6-11-2012 https://support.amd.com/en-us/download (I have a HD 7970 and get new drivers monthly.) Save the file as never know when stop updating and supporting your card.

You need a A/V and a Firewall Program that is not part of the browser.

Sorry, no advice other than that.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

The yellow prompt scrolls down at the top of the screen. It basically says, "A script or plugin is causing Firefox to run slow" and gives three options of "disable it" / "stop" / "wait" (If you click 'disable' it can then stop the rest of the page from loading. Click wait ... and it pops up again 10 seconds later)

I do have a anti-virus and Firewall installed. It is by a company called "Avast" ... and the password manager is part of their package, which is the one that deleted all the encrypted passwords in my profile / default Firefox password manager !

All I have is the CVS, which lists the site and passwords, and don't really want to go through all of them manually.

I will update my card driver too, thanks

Ok, so gather you are low on ram. is why getting the prompts. I have 32gig and get prompts every once in awhile. Sometimes it has to do with the Video Card Drivers trying to render the page. Firefox looks at the code then passes it off after converting it to something the drivers can read then is back again to the browser. So ya, update Video Card Drivers.

You could try this please : Go the Menu then Tools --> Options --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 0 = No Multi-proccesor = slow again. TRY 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

oh...yes, know Avast have used the free one yrs ago. ....It deleted all the passwords in Firefox. Would it not be best to contact Avast Forums and see what goes under that subject as I am sure you are not the first.

Or you got a new years project or just email the sites for new password and plug them back in that way.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I have 16GB of RAM, so feel that should be enough to run a browser. (I know it's Avast which is causing the problem as the yellow prompt tells you what item is causing the problem)

That said, it might have been something to do with the video driver as it's not popped up since, and typing has returned to it's normal speed.

Not so sure it's worth going to the Avast forums - if Firefox itself is unable to reinstall passwords. True, I suppose they might tell me how to encrypt the CSV file again, and replace the existing key.db file in profile

Hmm, didn't know I had to select an option to enable multicore. All these YEARS of having a multicore, and I've only ever used one ???

    • Just checked options, and there is no multi-processor option anywhere. Only thing in "Performance" is 'content process limit' Even tried to search options, but that came back blank

You can check in Windows Explorer if there is a previous version of the logins.json and key3.db files available.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

cor-el: That's an interesting idea. Alas, I think that relies on the computer having recorded a restore point ... but I believe I have switched mine off.

But you have provided me with a gem of an idea. I have a software program that searches the FAT tables, or the sectors, and finds any programs that have been emptied from recycle bin etc. I might be able to find the deleted logins.json and key3.db and move them back to the profile.

This might just solve the problem.

They maybe corrupted. Never work with original files if not corrupted. Is there a Folder on your Desktop called OldFirefoxDate ? If so they are in there.
