v52.5.0 - Used to be able to open attachements from composition window. No longer works on a fresh install. Any suggestions?

I just set up a new work computer and installed a fresh version of Thunderbird (v.52.5.0). On my old computer I could open attachements from the composition window. Now when I double click on the file or right click and click on Open, nothing happens.

Attachments open from the inbox or received messages just fine.

I notice that I have the 32-bit version installed on a 64-bit machine, but I wouldn't expect that is the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
