How can I permanently install a local extension?
Chrome has a developer mode where I can have a local extension under development or for personal use permanently installed. For Firefox, I read that I can temporarily install the extension, and it'll remain installed until I restart. Ideally, I don't want to reload the extension every time I start FIrefox. Is there any way to do this?

Hi
To assist add-on developers write and test unsigned Firefox add-ons, there are some unbranded builds available that you may wish to try.
They are not designed for daily use, but should help if you are developing or testing an add-on of your own prior to submission. You can read more about these (and download them) from here.
You would have to install the extension in the usual way. When you use the about:debugging page then you only install the extension for use during the current session.
Thanks for your replies. I understand there's a signing policy, but I don't understand why Firefox has to be taxing on someone privately developing their extension, and force them to get it signed to maintain their sanity!
I haven't gone through the signing process before - maybe it's simple and quick, but why not let an extension just be where and how it is, like Chrome does? Is there a rationale for enforcing signing? Or is it a one-time process where I get it signed once, and, from that point onwards, have local updates as I please once I add the application key to the extension manifest?

I suggest trying the Add-on developer forums to learn tricks that end user support forum volunteers wouldn't know.
