Firefox recently updated to a sleek new look with claims of being one of the fastest browsers out there. I was not disappointed until I started trying to use more than one tab at a time.

Main problem: Opening a new tab consistently freezes Firefox Quantum for 5-10 seconds. Additional problem: Switching between open tabs and a "new tab" also freezes FF for 2-5 seconds.

Attempted solutions: - Firefox refresh - Profile reset - Disable/enable hardware acceleration - Firefox Safe Mode - Full uninstall/reinstall - Change New Tab settings to display only an empty page - Update display drivers - Install Shockwave Flash

None of these seem to have helped, and there are already a few reports about very similar issues with this latest update. Hope for a quick resolution, as FF was always my go-to browser.

Problem Solved!

A plausible solution has presented itself in another question posted on this forum: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1186982 Quote from user/philipp: "great, thanks. can you try if this change can workaround the performance problem?: go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser."

This action seems to have negated all issues regarding Firefox hanging when creating a new tab. Now to find what accessibility setting I had that was keeping tabs on my browser - pun intended.

hi, thanks for reporting this. could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum (or if it's too long through a site like https://pastebin.mozilla.org/ and provide the link here)?

this might give us a clue what is going on. thank you!
