Firefox quantum bug? : text missing on websites, ubuntu laptop
Hello,
I have a laptop which runs ubuntu 16.04LTS. I have updated to the newest version of firefox, firefox quantum, and as a result (I assume) text is missing on some websites. For example on youtube the video and all of the thumbnails and user icons are present but no comments, or any text of any sort is present. Any suggestion for resolving this is greatly appreciated.
Chosen solution
Try to go to about:preferences > Language & Appearance > Advanced, and unset "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above". This resolves the issue for me.

I probably have the same problem, also on Ubuntu 16.04 (see here). I think it's related to loading local fonts. Do you have installed a lot of custom fonts? In my case, I have the TeXLive fonts, and some more, including Roboto, which is one of the fonts consistently _not_ shown on Google's sites.
One other thing we have in common seems to be the graphics driver version: "3.0 Mesa 17.0.7". But I don't know enough about drivers to judge the significance of this...
Modified
The link you have posted produces a "page not found error". Yes, I also have TeXLive fonts installed.
Oh, sorry, the automatic link highlighting seems to have included the closing paren. Should be fixed now. I have investigated the issue further in my other question, and really suspect that it pertains to loading of local fonts.

It seems you are correct. I tried your solution on youtube i.e. I disabled the robot font it used and all the text came back. Thank you

Worked like a charm, thanks
None of the above solutions work for me. Here I attach a screenshot in order for fou to figure out want I'm seeing... just nothing.
You can set this pref to 2 or 1 on the about:config page to lower the sandbox security setting.
- security.sandbox.content.level = 1
- close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.
If '1' still doesn't have effect then try '0' to disable the sandbox.
If this didn't work then undo/reverse the change and reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

It worked!! Thank you very much!!
yes, the value of 2 helped me too. That's really mysterious, many people should have noticed that, e.g. YouTube:
