new version
The new version looks horrible. There was no reason to change it...it wasn't broken. If there's no way to revert the look back to the previous version I'm done with Firefox.
Chosen solution
You can install 52 ESR -- which will be supported with security updates until May 2018 -- you can download it from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ -- if this worked, please mark my reply as solution.

A lot of the interface changes were to make it faster to render and more easily rescalable. But yes, it's a bit boxy.
Style rule wizards can help you remake the interface if you have a wish list of what you want to see. I'm constantly amazed by their creativity.
And if you were to give up on Firefox, which browser "looks" good to you?

Thank you Mkll. Right back to where it was a day ago. Perfect.

jscher2000, Thanks for your comment. The previous version of Firefox was perfect, uncluttered, straightforward, spartan and efficient. The changes to the appearance were hardly necessary in order to make it faster. If I had to give up on Firefox, certainly there would be some research and testing needed to find a replacement but eventually a suitable browser would be found.
Comodo Dragon is not bad, it maybe a re-skinned chrome type browser, it comes with the Comodo Fire Wall Free version. I have it installed and have used it a few times and works pretty good.
But as for FireFox versions I have 52.0, the auto updater does not seem to work as in check for updates, It always shows I'm up to date. I set to manual and that is when I get the update option. It looks like the latest version is 54? Yet I keep seeing add-ons and the such stating that they will work with version 57?
Also I'm using this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/walnut2-for-firefox/ skin and would like to keep it, I like the look of it.
Question: Would I have any issues using this skin if updating to latest version 54?
Hi SGTDRE, are you using the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52? You can check on
Help > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table, "Update Channel" will be esr.
ESR only gets security updates and the version numbers progress in the second place. Currently 52.5.0esr.
See also: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/faq/
The two currently supported releases are 57.0 and 52.5.0esr; Firefox 54 is not recommended.
Hello jscher2000 Please see attached image's Application Basics About FireFox Options-Advanced-Update
It does not appear to be 52esr but, when I have it set to auto update(recommend) as shown in the 3rd image, when going to Help-> About, It always shows up to date, but when I set it to Check for updates as shown in image 3rd and then go to Help-> about I then get the update option as shown in 2nd image.

Hi SGTDRE, I don't know why your Firefox isn't updating. It seems to be suggesting in the About dialog that you get Firefox 56.0. Possibly an update was downloaded and somehow got "stuck" but I just don't recall seeing that combination of circumstances before.
Anyway, that walnut skin theme won't work in Firefox 57. Someone will need to rebuild it in a compatible way.
Hello jscher2000, Thanks again for the assist, I downloaded Firefox x32 and x64 versions of Firefox Setup 52.5.0esr.exe.
As it is now, I have Firefox x32 installed, I understand that if I run the x32 installer it will install over my current install of firefox.
What if I chose to run the x64 version will I then end up with a x64 version and ( x32 version "currently installed" ) OR will the x64 version over write my current x32 firefox install.
Then go on from there with further updates as needed. I ask this because I'm unsure of how the installer for firefox is set up to work, in other applications a x64 version does not over write a x32 version.
my concern is not screwing up my favorites and tab groups, I do have the Xmarks plugin to back up, but it has a bug that is being worked out, as per the support message I received, because the log in pop-up box keeps showing up and at one time I almost had two dozen login pop-ups. So I have it disabled for now.

Hi SGTDRE, you may want to make a backup: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
As it is now, I have Firefox x32 installed, I understand that if I run the x32 installer it will install over my current install of firefox.
That sounds logical.
What if I chose to run the x64 version will I then end up with a x64 version and ( x32 version "currently installed" ) OR will the x64 version over write my current x32 firefox install.
I suspect it will install side-by-side under the C:\Program Files folder.
You should not share a profile folder between different versions of Firefox. Each upgrade/downgrade involves some risk of data loss.
