I’ve reloaded and refreshed Firefox as stated in one of your articles, but it continues to hang up every few seconds! There is no exaggeration when I say this! So I cannot go hunting through a myriad of articles to figure this out, because it’ll take me 15.8 years to do so! This just started happening the past month or so. I cannot get anything done in a timely manner. It constantly hangs and gives me “not responding” errors. I’m on WIN10, and am wondering if some setting is set for 32-bit v 64-bit? I give up.

Chosen solution

After deinstallaing and reinstalling a browser, you need to set in your Windows 10 the default app for websites back to Firefox, then links will work again.

I brought the browser back up w/o doing what you suggest and it's working okay now...but it usually works fine initially...then gets worse. I'll see how it goes, and if things slow up again, I'll do what you suggest. Thanks!

Try to update to Firefox 56.0.2 to see if that has effect.

Okay, as expected, after a day, FF went back to its sluggish behavior, so I restarted in the Safe mode...but I'll give it some time to let it really "sink in"....

Okay, I just bit the bullet and upgraded to 56.0.2--and it seems MUCH faster! Will give this a try over the weekend--thanks!

Well...no, this problem has NOT been resolved. It's even worse, happening within a day of turning on the browser, versus waiting about a day before locking and freezing up. All the same indications!: it continues to hang up every few seconds! There is no exaggeration when I say this! Many have reported issues using the 64bit Firefox. Install the 32bit version from; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

But I though the previous help above had me LOAD the 64-bit version when my 32-bit version was messing up. Surely I'm not the only one having these issues...but I feel like I'm going back to what I was on in the first place....

FYI...I loaded to the Firefox Quantum browser. It was never "blazing fast" at all...and has since also slowed down. I think there is some odd file contention issue or some internal issue that is affecting my system.

This the best way to uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Okay...so far...this seems to have done the trick! Of course, I lost all the original links in your last email to me when I deleted and reloaded FF. But found my way back! :-] So, if I no longer respond, here, then everything is once again working! Thanks for ALL of your help, folks!

Man, is nothing simple these days? It seems that the browser issue HAS resolved itself, but curiously, now NOTHING in my Outlook mail hyperlinks to the Internet! The hyperlinks to this forum don't work, the hyperlinks in ANY emails do not work.

Thanks! Finally--things appear to be working!

Nope, this has not worked. It continues to freeze (and has since a day after my last response above) and hang just like when I first started all this (though am not geting error messages). Nothing seems to work, and I've scanned for viruses, and none are found. Now it doesn't take a day to manifest, it starts, say, within an hour or less after bringing up the browser.
